PROS
Superior output in High mode
CONS
Fast PWM flickering (barely noticeable) in Medium and Low mode
I'm using this driver in conjunction with warm XM-L emitter and Eneloop NiMH batts in a small twisty 1xAA host (Smiling Shark SS-5002). Output in High mode is great for an 1xAA flashlight (above 150lm), but the downside to this is high battery drain current (slightly above 2 Amps), so this driver isn't quite suitable for alkaline batteries (that, if you're planning to use it solely in highest power setting). Also the heat generated by XM-L and driver itself is tremendous - good thermal path is a must! There's barely audible inductor whine in lower modes, really nothing to be concerned about. This is a fine driver overall - it delivers what's advertised. I'm planning to use one in the future, for modding an Uinfire B68 zoomable throwie.

PROS
Lightweight & easy to carry, good magnification, no optical issues or artifacts, easy to use
CONS
Just for examination/inspection, not really for repair work
This is the first magnifier of this kind I've ordered from FT and so far it's fulfilled all expectations. Build quality is OK (acrylic lens w/plastic eyepiece), it's also very lightweight and easy to use. It's not intended to be held in hand (at greater distance from the eye) or you'll get image distorsions, but it's an eye loupe anyway. Image is in focus when the lens is at distance of about 2in (50mm) from the viewed object. When properly positioned, detail and magnification is OK and image is clear, but try to ensure as much light as possible. Great for wrist watches, PCB's and all other sorts of miniature mechanisms and gadgets, not really for repairs but rather for inspection (nevertheless in a pinch it might do). I recommend it. Cheers!

PROS
Simple to use Good build overall Charging voltage/current readable in real time
CONS
Slow charge (basically overnight) Data for only one slot displayed at the time (manual toggling needed) No advanced functions (capacity meas. etc) Slide contacts a bit squeaky
I've been using D2 for about a month now. I'm generally satisfied with this purchase - it's a quality build by a reputable flashlight company and I have other NC products that work flawlessly. The good side of D2 is the automation - it's a real no-brainer, suitable for the average Joe Public. It basically does what's advertised, but it's still on the slow side: with its 500mA maximum current per channel it's certainly not a fast one (e.g. good quality 2450mAh NiMH batteries take more than 4.5 hours to complete charge, and it's just about the same with brand name 2300/2400mAh Li-ion 18650's). Squeaky sliding contacts are easily lubricated with a dab of vaseline or silicone grease on a cotton swab - no need to disassemble the charger. The other slightly annoying thing is a need to use toggle switch to see charging data for both slots (I usually keep the display monitoring the battery which is expected to complete charging first, esp. if it's a Li-ion). My D2 doesn't cut off Li-ions at 4.20V but continues charging, so I've extracted the battery twice manually, not wanting to wait and see what happens next (perhaps I'm a bit paranoid but my cheapo "MXYXX" 2x18650 charger cuts off at exactly 4.17V)...

PROS
Operates on NiMH Long throw (considering flashlight size) Sharp focus Negligible beam artifacts Crisp switch action Tailstands Considerable modding potential
CONS
Quite sharp edges on bezel and cooling fins No real regulation on alkaline and NiMH batts Mediocre heat management (pill design)
Received one of these as my first adjustable (zoomable) flashlight and a potential modding platform. Overall quality is decent, XP-E has nice throw (100 meters in urban light-polluted area). Zooming action is smooth (rubber O-ring installed, some silicone grease is required for maintenance). Some sharp edges left after machining (bezel and cooling fins), everything sorted with steel wool. Great modding potential if you're familiar with Li-ion batts, soldering, 3rd party drivers and emitter dedoming, but this thing is considerably bright in stock version, using ordinary NiMH battery! Tailcap current draw is 1.5 amps on one fresh Eneloop, measured with DMM.

PROS
Excellent machining and anodizing Very bright if needed (Hi > 100lm) Very compact, tailstandable, with anti-roll protection Mode memory function Easily operable with one hand
CONS
Somewhat "dirty" hotspot Tint not uniform across the beam Noticeable PWM flickering in Medium and Low mode
I've received my E09 today - great service from FastTech, as always. It's impeccably anodized in brown-olive tone, without machining marks or visible flaws. Beam has a tight and quite neutral hotspot and wide, faint, somewhat purplish spill. Reflector is shallow, with well centered emitter. Driver is obviously not current-regulated, since PWM flickering is noticeable in Medium and Low mode when the flashlight is moved around, but it's not annoying. My sample arrived fully operable, with a slightly lubricated O-ring and well machined & clean threads, so I've popped in one Eneloop AAA and started to use it right away. Changing modes with one hand worked as a breeze right out the box, without any break-in period. Good value and surprisingly fine craftsmanship! Easily disappears in a jeans' 5th pocket, even with a spare AAA battery aside. Would recommend to anyone looking for a very small but very bright flashlight (bear in mind that E09 in High mode draws high current from a tiny AAA battery - use quality NiMH rechargeables and don't expect unrealistic runtimes!)
