I used to have a WW2 Fairbain and SS Dagger both from my father, seized by Police in a raid. Bugger. The WW2 general issue Katana was mass produced, but still collectible. Americans were taught to block Jap officer swords with their rifles, which worked, unless they were unfortunate enough to come up against a Jap that carried an original family sword, which didn't work. lol

EDIT
I am truly blessed today, my post survived a captcha. I am invincible! :D

I'm looking for one of the über rare FS daggers made for the Americans. I've never had a really nice FS, and someone always ends up offering me too much money for me to refuse selling it. I had an original Smatchet years ago, but another collector basically gave me a blank cheque for it.

Back in the late eighties, I used to buy up WW2 issue katanas, and strip the furniture. I've found a few valuable family blades set in crappy service mountings. However, the tales of katanas chopping the ends off hot BAR barrels, and carving Lee Enfield and M14s in twain, are sadly a myth.

Tough break. Why did she give them to the police? It's not like they're illegal or anything.

I love how the British law on swords has backfired. They ban any sword with a curved blade that isn't traditionally forged, in an attempt to stop psychopaths buying £30 katanas from Camden market, and waving it at police outside their council house whilst shouting "you'll never take me alive copper". What happens? The market is flooded with Chinese traditionally forged katanas for £30. Well done, you've forced the market to adapt so psychos now have a far better weapon. *slow clap*

Feck knows how a scorned woman's mind works mate!!

Coincidentally I swapped another for a nice guitar,& the chap was arrested while waving it at police outside his council house whilst shouting "you'll never take me alive copper". 100% true! He was ex military & went by the name of Snafu & believed he was a horseman of the apocalypse..still,I got a sweet Gretsch out of it ;-)

Oooooh, was it a pre Gibson Gretsch? I had a white falcon for a bit, but it wasn't really my style. Awesome sound, played like a dream, and was nice to look at - I just didn't want to look like a country and western singer, lol. I swapped mine for a Rickenbacker 620 in Jet glo. Still got that one, and that's very much my style.
