Although it may be convenient to use USB, I personally had so many problems with USB cables, that I would rather go with a dedicated power supply like SKU 1271304 or SKU 1271301, but that it is just me.

So would I but I'm unsure if 5.5mm x 2.1mm is the right size connector for the VC4. Plus the reviews seem quite mixed.

I'm pretty sure the connector is 5.5mm*2.1mm.

Then, I agree the problem is to find a good power supply...
I don't have a VC4, but another type of charger (BTC3100) which came with a dedicated power supply, which is rather on the heavy size (looks like a laptop power supply). This makes me even more dubious about USB...

SKU 1496400 looks OK, and so was SKU 1192601. Maybe you already have one at home (they ship with IP camera, wifi routers, and other electronic stuff), just check for 5V and not 12V (and as much power as you want).

The only Power Supply I have is the one from the XTAR WP6II and that's 12V not 5V, also the connector doesn't fit which makes me wonder if 5.5mm x 2.1mm is the right size connector for the VC4. I'm a bit stumped.

You are right, this is not a regular 5.5mm x 2.1mm plug. My bad.

I checked the review here or here. There is a very well done list of good USB power supplies.

Thanks for the info + I've bookmarked your links.

I'm actually okay for 2a/2.1a USB chargers. My gripe is that XTAR appear to have used a proprietary connector on the charge cable. I don't want to have to junk the charger because the cables playing up.

If that's the case I might just take a punt on something like SKU 1271304 , though I would prefer something with better reviews.

The cable isn't 5.5x2.1, it's 5.5x2.5mm

Just wanted to add another +1 for replacement cables. I'd probably buy at least 3 as I'm sure the cable will be dead before the charger itself.
