Shorting [SOLVED WITH PICS]
EDIT: SEE POST #13 FOR SOLUTION(S)

Just a PSA: I found out tonight that if I tighten the deck town the whole way as far as it will thread, I get a short. I have no idea what exactly is causing that to happen, but I just wanted to throw this out there. All all I had to do is loosen it up ever so slightly to make the short go away.

If this has happened to anybody else and you know of exactly why this happens, please share.

I had the same problem too. After taking my gt apart and reassembling, I started to get shorts. But later I found out I put the small piece which comes between the deck and bottom reversely. Hope it helps.

That plastic insulator could be reversed, which would allow the disc inside the base to contact the negative side. Also, make sure you have the screws the right way round - the positive is longer than the negative.

Another possibility that SHOULDN'T happen with the Hotcig, is for the insulator in the 510 to fail. My Hotcig has a beefy solid plastic insulator, but cheaper versions often have o-rings that can slip over the head. If yours has an o-ring, remove the 510, slip an M2 nylon washer over the screw, and snug it down so it holds the o-ring in place. It helps insulate when used with hybrid mods as well.

It could be that the 510 screw is a bit too long.

Have you got a DMM with which you can do a continuity test?

Never had a problem with the 510 pin causing shorting, however I did have a problem with it causing ohms jumping on my IPV mini v1. Then it stopped. My IPV mini is fuqd up, though, so I can't blame it on the RTA necessarily.

As far as my shorting problem in my OP, I never did have this problem again after I stopped screwing my deck in all the way.

And as Nym says, you have to put this things back together exactly the way it should be. It's easy to not remember how a certain part was installed. This tank has a lot of small parts!

I love the tank regardless of it's shortcomings. In fact, I have another on the way, including a Hotcig GS II which was more of a shinyitis purchase than anything.

Yeah, not so impressed with the 22mm GS. Nothing wrong with the clone, it's just not a fabulous design in the first place.

update, it was that bottom insulator were the screw go's thur, I found a beefier insulator and put it in there working good thanks again for your suggestions preciate it. Ps on a side note it seems like this HOTCIG there is better clearance inside the tank for the juice to get to the wicks vs the SKU 2050300.
