I think the "R" part of this wire is NiCr
If you heat it up, it get a shiny blue colour, Kanthal dosnt do this, Kanthal is more brownish
Its not magnetic, kanthal is, cause Kanthal contain Iron

This is not a problem for me, I like NiCr and the quality of the wires is very good.

I can second that opinion, my 1.7 ohm SKU 1760909 came in. It's not magnetic (unlike Kanthal), and even the 1.7 ohm has thinner resistance wire than the NR leads. As far as I can tell, it's the same quality as the 1.7 ohm NR-R-NR from SKU 1761000, but with this you get 100 pcs vs. 50 wrapped with mediocre silica. Meh.

I finally received this wire and took measurements. Its published dimensions are incorrect and it is actually made from Nichrome and not from Kanthal.
I've edited my first post in this thread to include these measurements.
I would like to apologies to anyone who might have purchased this item only because my previous speculations made them believe it is made of Kanthal.

The reason I prepare my microcoils by first wrapping over a machine screw or a drill bit, is because I later on slide a soft cotton wick into then.
This method is not suitable for a Silica wick because it is not soft, so could hardly be inserted into a pre made coil without severely deforming it.
Building a microcoil over Silica is simpler, because the silica is stiff enough to allow wrapping the wire directly over it, but I do recommend that you soften the wire first with a simple butane lighter (not a torch – that's too hot).

Hmmm, thanks for telling.
My evod arrived and the 2.4 ohms build that came with it is not bad. I will try the 1.8 in the next days.
I guess I will stick with the one you indicated early... Or this 1.7 is better?

It's still a good deal, unless you have issues with Nichrome. AFAIK all the stock clearo heads use Nichrome, so if you're using these to rebuild those heads like I am, it's a winner. If these were for me I'd consider making a wire zapper to use kanthal, but I'm recoiling heads for a friend and these wires are good enough. I was using the 50 packs with wicks which cost the same as these 100 packs, but the silica in the "pre-coiled" packs is about as low quality as it gets.

I guess i will get the 2.4 ohms you indicated. This 1.7 (the one of the post) is almost double the price of the 2.4...

the cheaper ones have this "black wire", it has some taste
I dont know what material it is, for me the NiCr ( SKU 1760909 )is better

i cant tell you what excately taste it has
for me it taste a little bit burnt, best is to try it, maybe you have no problem with it, and they are not expensive
