3 pin battery connector
I have batteries that have a 3rd pin marked T which I believe is for temperature.
if I solder a 3 pin connector onto this board that i would power through usb should i just solder to pins -, TEMP and + while ignoring IN- and IN+?

Don't have this particular board, but the IN+ and IN- are generally an optional power input if you don't want to use the USB connector.
Functionality of the temp pin is explained on page 2 of the
Datasheet
