the little top cap from a protank head is an option most people will have in their spares boxes as well..
I used a brass washer that I had to do the same job and with those there's no sponginess when you use the lock ring like you get using silicone.

Why not sand down the plastic button insulator a bit as a means of shortening the throw?
Rube Goldberg would get a kick out of "temperature control" devices.

Why permanently modify the device when said fix can be converted back to original in a jiffy? Leave yourself more options....

Because it's an actual fix and not a kludge. The term 'fix' implies that something's broken. Why not make it permanent if it's broken?

Since when is preference of throw length either broken or fixed? I could simply add a brass washer.....nah, get me the sandpaper! lmao
