I know they have protection built into the svd itself but can I still use protected battery's in here?

No, they've got to be unprotected batteries. If you use protected ones in the SVD it will not work right, if at all.
Vaping since April 2008 and still loving it :) Stopped smoking April 2008, soooooooo easy :)

Gems is correct, although I have used "protected" batteries in an SVD it did not "preform well" (it "Functioned") but I would say it was NOT "Working Correctly" .... (sometimes it Fired, Sometimes it didn't)

if you only have protected batteries available to you it WILL work but not to its full potential
